Dr Sabine Maaßen was born in Dinslaken on 7 May 1966.
After studying law at the Universities of Mainz and Dijon, she received her doctorate in law from the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.
After her legal traineeship, Dr Sabine Maaßen first worked as a lawyer and later at the legal protection department of the German Trade Union Confederation in Krefeld. In 2002 she joined IG Metall, initially at the Duisburg-Dinslaken administrative office. From 2005 she worked for the union's executive board in Frankfurt am Main. There she was responsible for the department of works constitution and company law. In 2008, she moved to the legal department, which she headed from 2013.
2016, Dr Maaßen joined thyssenkrupp - initially as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of the Marine Systems business unit in the Industrial Solutions business area. In 2018, she took over the function of Labour Director on the Executive Board of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG and was responsible for Human Resources and Social Affairs.
Since 1 April 2020, Dr Sabine Maaßen has been Labour Director and Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for the Human Resources and Organisation Division.
