Prof. Dr. Meike Jipp

German Aerospace Center (DLR). - Institute of Transport Research

Meike Jipp is Professor of "Transport Demand and Effects" at the Technical University of Berlin and on leave of absence from DLR. There, Meike Jipp is Director of the Institute for Transport Research. In her research, Meike Jipp focuses on human behaviour in ground-based transport: Why are people mobile? Why, for example, do some people use public transport? Why do other people cycle? How can decisions for or against a means of transport be explained? How can transport systems be designed so that negative transport impacts are reduced and positive impacts are promoted? At the centre of her empirical research, Meike Jipp therefore pursues questions of the analysis of human behaviour in transport as well as the acceptance and actual use of transport offers. Meike Jipp studied psychology at the University of Mannheim and Carleton University, Ottawa/Canada, with a minor in computer science. She received her doctorate in 2008 as a doctoral scholar at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Mannheim. She then expanded her scientific portfolio as a research assistant at the Otto Selz Institute for Applied Psychology at the University of Mannheim. In 2010, Meike Jipp moved to the DLR Institute of Flight Guidance, where she worked as a project manager, particularly investigating the significance of interindividual differences in cognitive abilities for human-technology interaction. At the beginning of 2014, Meike Jipp took over as head of the "Driver Cognition and Modelling" group in the "Automotive Systems" department at the DLR Institute of Transportation Systems. Between 2015 and 2020, she will head the "Human Factors" department at the same institute, and between 2017 and 2019 she will also head the "Testing" department on a temporary basis. Also in 2017, Meike Jipp habilitated at the Faculty of Life Sciences at the Technical University of Braunschweig with the habilitation thesis "The relevance of interindividual differences for the effects of automation systems in complex environments ". She was a private lecturer at the faculty until she took over her professorship in 2019, in parallel with her department head function at DLR. At the beginning of 2021, Meike Jipp took over her current professorship at the Technische Universität Berlin and the management of the DLR Institute of Transport Research.
