Berlin/Munich, Germany - 18 Aug. 2021 - The IAA MOBILITY 2021 will be held in Munich from Sept. 7 - 12 and will thus be the first major international event in Germany since the easing of the lockdown restrictions.
On Sept. 7 German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel will open the IAA MOBILITY, where more than 1,000 exhibitors and speakers will present innovations and concepts for the future of mobility. With a state-of-the-art concept, the IAA MOBILITY will link the major players in mobility with the big names in high-tech. It will be the first event worldwide to offer visitors a comprehensive array of test drives with the new vehicle models. All the main events at the IAA MOBILITY will be streamed; the IAA MOBILITY APP will provide visitors with orientation and information at the show itself.
"The IAA MOBILITY 2021 in Munich will be the largest and most modern mobility event in the world and is a perfect fit at a time when Europe has set out to be the world’s first climate-neutral continent. Traffic plays a major role in this scenario," says Jürgen Mindel, Managing Director of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), organizer of the IAA MOBILITY. "We are already uniting the sectors – automotive, digital, bicycle and urban planning – that will belong together in the future. We will present new concepts and invite visitors to debate on the right path to a climate-neutral future."
Christine von Breitenbuch, Project Manager for the IAA MOBILITY at Messe München, adds: "We are thrilled that the IAA MOBILITY is taking place in Munich. The city is a global magnet attracting visitors from Germany, Europe and the entire world to directly experience the things that will shape our daily life in the future. We have put together a great program for all trade visitors, automobile and bicycle enthusiasts, and families. "What will move us next"
Under the heading "What will move us next," the IAA Mobility will be using a new concept to present innovations in mobility, the path to a climate-neutral future, and advances in digitization. The heading will be illustrated by numerous cooperative ventures between OEMs and high-tech companies. Visitors can expect an innovative live experience with public formats and forums for the frequently contentious yet peaceful dialogue on the right path to a climate-neutral future for everyone.
Design studies and concept cars
The German automotive industry is still the world’s most innovative. At the IAA MOBILITY numerous developments will be presented that make driving safer, cleaner and more digital including new driver-assist systems and technologies for highly automated driving. Visitors can glimpse what automobile design will look like in the e-mobility era. With design studies and concept cars, the exhibitors will demonstrate the new options created by the switch to e-mobility. Moreover, suppliers will be presenting AI-based high-performance processors capable of controlling all stages of automated and fully autonomous driving in tomorrow’s cars.
On the way to climate neutrality
The innovations along the path to climate neutrality are the over-arching theme of the IAA MOBILITY. The exhibitors will present numerous new developments aiming to further improve the climate balance of vehicles and traffic. So far world premieres have been announced by Audi, BMW, Cupra, Dacia, Ford, Hyundai, Mercedes, Maybach, AMG, Smart, Mini, Renault and Volkswagen. The spectrum ranges from e-models and zero-emissions models with hydrogen powertrains to the latest generation of diesel and gasoline engines. Upcycling schemes – such as making tires out of recycled PET bottles – and the sustainability of the entire value-creation chain – will also be on display. Moreover, large parts of the IAA MOBILITY itself will be climate neutral.
Connecting the high-tech and mobility industries
The IAA MOBILITY links the key players in high-tech and mobility – an important step since the future of mobility will be dominated by digitization and vehicle connectivity. For many companies, new opportunities and business fields will emerge – ranging from the AI-based "Industry 4.0" and e-mobility to smart data analytics, innovative automation and intelligent assistance systems.
Premiere: driverless parking
At the Messe München car park, visitors can try out autonomous parking: with the joint project "Automated Valet Parking (AVP), " the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) is presenting driverless parking. Together with 10 project partners, the VDA is showcasing – for the first time – the technical interaction between a large number of vehicle manufacturers and infrastructure providers. Automated parking demonstrations will take place several times daily in the Messe West Car Park.
New formats and programs
At the "IAA Mobility Summit" on the exhibition grounds, trade visitors and experts from all over the world can share information on innovative mobility solutions and global innovations.
Automotive suppliers, over 75 startups and leading high-tech and IT companies will be represented in addition to the big-name automakers.
At the "IAA Mobility Conference" inspiration will be provided by over 500 international speakers from the mobility and digital industries, scientists, and representatives of the political sector and NGOs. The sustainable transformation of mobility will be the topic of keynote addresses, panel discussions and fireside chats. Visitors to the IAA Mobility Conference can look forward to speakers such as Peter Altmaier (German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy), Cristiano Amon (CEO Qualcomm), Roger Atkins (Founder, Electric Vehicles Outlook Ltd. and Electric Podcast Show Host), Oliver Blume, (CEO, Porsche AG), Anabel Diaz Calderon (Regional General Manager, EMEA Rides at Uber), Dr. Herbert Diess (CEO, Volkswagen AG), Dr. Peter Gassmann, (Global Strategy & Leader, PwC Strategy& Germany GmbH), Pat Gelsinger (CEO, Intel), Angelika Gifford (Vice President Central Europe, Facebook), Clare Jones (CCO, What3Words), Ola Källenius, (CEO, Daimler AG), Dr. Siddartha Khastgir (Head of Verification & Validation, Intelligent Vehicles, University of Warwick), Swamy Kotagiri (CEO, Magna International), Felix Kunert (Global Automotive Leader, PwC Germany), Dr. Peter Laier, (Member of the Executive Board, Knorr-Bremse AG), Kaspar Johannes Meyer (German Foreign Office, Policy Officer for Gaming and All Gaming Activities in Foreign Policy), Dr. Ariane Reinhart (Member of the Executive Board, Continental AG), Olivier Reppert (CEO, Share Now), Mate Rimac (Founder and CEO, Rimac), Dr. Philipp Rode (Executive Director, LSE Cities), Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Additional speakers will be named soon.
On the "IAA Mobility Blue Lane" the new products can be experienced live on a test route. There is a Blue Lane for cars with electric or hybrid powertrains or for HOVs (min. 3 persons or public transport). Starting at Königsplatz and Apothekenhof, the Blue Lane Road runs through the city and over the autobahn to the exhibition grounds in Riem. The Blue Lane Bike for bicycles – well signposted, of course – also runs from the downtown area to the exhibition grounds and back. On the Blue Lane Micromobility, visitors can travel between the various locations in the Open Space on e-scooters or e-bicycles, thereby trying out this form of mobility. The Blue Lane in the public transport system brings visitors from the downtown area via the U2 subway to the Summit and Conference in only 23 minutes. All IAA tickets include use of the public transport system in Munich on the day of their validity. All Blue Lanes are not exclusively IAA Mobility Routes and can thus be used by all transport participants.
All test vehicles can be booked on the "IAA-MOBILITY App." This app offers numerous functions such as a personalized IAA program, an overview of all exhibitors, current news, an interactive site plan, a program search function, and a guide to the IAA Conference. Via a clever matchmaking function, trade visitors can make interesting new contacts at the IAA MOBILITY.
At the "IAA MOBILITY Open Space" world premieres and new developments from leading automobile and bicycle manufacturers will be presented for the first time in the center of Munich. At Königsplatz, Brienner Straße, Wittelsbacher Platz, Odeonsplatz/Ludwigsstraße, Feldherrnhalle, Hofgartenstraße, Residenzhöfe, Marstallplatz, Max-Joseph-Platz and Marienplatz, visitors can enjoy a diversified program of innovations and entertainment with an exciting array of art installations, cultural programs and culinary concepts.
The companies presenting themselves in the downtown area include ADAC, Audi, BMW, Bosch, Brose, Canyon, Dacia, Cupra, EnBW, Ford, Fraunhofer Institute, Genesis, IBM, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, Porsche, Riese & Müller, Rose Bikes, Rotwild, Siemens and Volkswagen.
At the "IAA MOBILITY Citizen Lab" public discussions about the mobility of the future will be conducted outdoors on the Marienplatz.
To distribute our content to as many people as possible at times when travel is restricted, all the main program contents of the IAA MOBILITY will be streamed and made available on the website www.iaa.de and via the social media:
Sophisticated 5G network in Munich
Together with the premiere of the new IAA MOBILITY, Messe München is inaugurating one of the most sophisticated pubic 5G networks on the exhibition grounds and in the city of Munich together with Telekom, Vodafone and Telefónica Deutschland/O2. IAA MOBILITY’s 5G network makes it possible to experience the digital mobility of tomorrow.
Pandemic safety thanks to a time-tested hygiene concept
From the start the IAA MOBILITY 2021 was planned under pandemic conditions. The organizers maintain close contact to the proper authorities so that they can react daily. Together with the city of Munich and the state of Bavaria, VDA and Messe München have elaborated a wide range of scenarios enabling visitors to experience the Summit, the Conference and the Open Space responsibly and safely. The "VRT Principle" ("vaccinated, recovered or tested") applies on the exhibition grounds.
In the buildings of Messe München in which the Summit and the Conference will take place – and in the Open Space Extended on the grounds – social-distancing rules and a mask mandate apply for both exhibitors and visitors; visitors must also present proof of a negative corona test performed on the same day, or of a past infection or complete vaccination. The same rules apply for the use of the test vehicles in the Blue Lane.
In the downtown area and on public transport, mask mandates and distancing rules apply. In restaurants the rules in force at that time apply. All rules are explained on iaa.de and are continually updated.
