In-car app uses intelligent combination of different means of transport based on geo-fencing technology. Application is installed in the vehicle. Try it out now at the mobility trade fair in Munich.
Urban mobility is an important future topic for every car manufacturer. In 2030, more than 80% of all people will live in cities. The topic is also a high priority for the BMW Group. It is continually developing new solutions to optimize mobility within cities and in regions. In this context, it is important that individual mobility with one's own car can be combined with other options.
During the IAA Mobility, the BMW Group ensures that visitors arrive safely and without traffic jams and that unnecessary inner-city traffic is avoided - with the "Intermodal Companion @ IAA MOBILITY," an in-car app that offers visitors to the mobility fair various options depending on their route and destination. This in-car app uses geo-fencing technology, which already ensures that BMW Group hybrid vehicles are fully electric in more than 80 European cities.
BMW customers can register for the "Intermodal Companion @ IAA MOBILITY" via the companion.bmw.de website using their ConnectedDrive account. This will then be installed in their vehicle before the trade show via an over-the-air upgrade process.
Depending on their direction of arrival and IAA destination, users can select various BMW parking garages and Park&Ride parking lots in the city of Munich as parking and transfer points. From there, they can conveniently reach their destination at the trade fair or the Open Space. If an intermodal journey by public transport is selected, users are automatically guided via the In-Car app to one of the transfer points, where they can simply book a ticket for the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV) using a QR code.
The application is typical of what BMW drivers can expect in the future: Multimodal apps and connections with other providers will make mobility in cities smooth and convenient. Less congestion, more freedom and driving pleasure.
