Frequently Asked Questions

Where and how can I buy tickets? When will the IAA App be available? What do I have to consider when travelling to Frankfurt am Main and the exhibition grounds? On this page you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions

IAA tickets

The ticket presale will in December 2018. IAA tickets will also be available spontaneously during the trade fair at the IAA cash desks near the entrances and do not have to be reserved.

You can buy tickets at the cash desks at the trade fair grounds on site without a long queue time. So it is easy to visit the IAA spontaneously and you don't have to reserve tickets.

For buying tickets online, you use credit-, EC/Maestro-cards or your PayPal account. When buying a ticket directly at the IAA entrance cash desks, you can pay cash or use credit-, EC/Maestro-cards. Neither traveller cheques nor other currencies than EURO are accepted.

IAA entrance tickets entitle to visit the trade fair and use the shuttle buses between the designated IAA parking lots and the trade fair grounds. The use of public transport is not included in the IAA visitor services; this ensures IAA ticket prices to stay low and supports visitors to plan their journeys individually.

Each admission ticket allows to visit the IAA once until you leave the trade fair grounds, at the latest at evening closing time. If you urgently need to interrupt your visit to the trade fair, you should speak to the supervisor at the exit points before you leave the grounds.

The two trade days at the IAA offer the opportunity to visit the motor show for business purposes before the public days. You do not need accreditation as a professional visitor or a trader, but special tickets are valid on trade days. The tickets for trade days can be purchased at the webshop in advance or at the IAA cash desks on site. Like all IAA tickets, the tickets for the trade days entitle to enter the fair once. If these special tickets are not used on trade days, they may still be used on a public day afterwards.

Children under the age of seven can visit the IAA free of charge. There are reduced admission prices for young visitors aged seven to 17.

On the Trade Fair Grounds

There is barrier-free access to the entire IAA grounds. Parking spaces are available for disabled visitors, and toilets for less mobile persons are provided. Wheelchair users and visitors to the trade fair whose ID card is marked “B” are entitled to free entry to the IAA for themselves and one assistant upon presentation of appropriate official ID at the cash desks on site. Assistance dogs and guide dogs may be taken onto the exhibition grounds.

Messe Frankfurt offers a hotline for disabled persons to help them plan their visit to the fair grounds: tel.: +49 69 7575-6999, email: handicap@messefrankfurt.com.

Children under the age of 15 are allowed to attend IAA accompanied by adults with legal responsibility. In some cases an exception by the IAA might be granted.

The IAA area can only be visited with a valid ID card.

The fair grounds are “fair game” to be photographed at any time. If you want to photograph in the halls and at the stands, it is best to talk to the relevant exhibitor whether this is possible. Any persons appearing on photos or in video/film material have a right to control the use of their own image – this naturally also applies on the exhibition grounds.

The following objects are not allowed onto the exhibition grounds:

- All types of weapons and objects that can be used as weapons or missiles,
e.g. baseball bats, electroshock weapons, laser pointers or large scissors

- Imitation weapons, including toy weapons

- All types of knives

- Pyrotechnic devices

- Explosive or flammable substances, e.g. gas containers

- Spray cans containing coloring, corrosive, numbing or other harmful substances, e.g. pepper spray

This is not an exhaustive list and more items may be added by the organizer.

Pets are not allowed onto the trade fair grounds. Messe Frankfurt does not have any facilities at the entrances for accommodating them. Guide dogs are of course exempt from this regulation.

Messe Frankfurt offers a Park&Sleep area near the IAA visitors' parking lots “Zum Rebstockbad” for motorhomes and caravans. The area is barrier-free.

We recommend that you always turn off the navigation system in Frankfurt when approaching the IAA and follow the current IAA layout of the traffic police to the next possible visitor’s parking.

The IAA trade fair grounds are located in the city's low emission zone (“Umweltzone”), but the IAA parking lots are outside (exception parking lot “Gleisdreieck) and can be accessed by vehicles without an environmental badge ("Umweltplakette") Otherwise, vehicles may only enter the Frankfurt low emission zone if they display the relevant badge. The VDA is not able to issue badges or make exceptions to the rules.

The IAA trade fair grounds are located within the city's low emission zone (“Umweltzone”). Vehicles may only enter this zone if they are in the pollution group 4 and display the green environmental badge (“Grüne Umweltplakette”).

Only the IAA parking lot “Gleisdreieck” is located within the low emission zone. Vehicles may only enter the Frankfurt low emission zone if they display an environmental badge. Vehicles (from Germany or abroad) in pollutant group 2, 3 or 4 can get the necessary badge from the German technical inspection company TÜV-SÜD. The VDA cannot issue badges or make exceptions to the rules. Driving a vehicle without a badge in the low emission zone is a traffic offense and may be punished with a fine by the city of Frankfurt.

The parking garage opens two hours before the IAA starts in the morning and closes two hours after the fair each evening, i.e. it is accessible between 7 am and 9 pm each day. Overnight parking is not permitted.

For IAA visitors with electric cars, charging points will be available free of charge in the Rebstock parking garage. All the charging points use Type 2 connectors. As charging places are limited, please register with Messe Frankfurt in good time by e-mail: emobil@messefrankfurt.com.

For exhibitors and visitors arriving with a motorhome, spaces without infrastructure are available on Messe Frankfurt’s visitor car parks.

Should you require sanitary facilities or power/water supply connections during your stay, please use one of the adjacent campsites

The IAA is the largest automotive trade fair in the world, both for passenger cars and for commercial vehicles. Owing to the increasing numbers of visitors and exhibitors, at the beginning of the 1990s the IAA was divided into one trade show for passenger cars and one for commercial vehicles, which now take place in alternate years. In odd-numbered years the IAA Cars is held in Frankfurt and in even-numbered years the IAA Commercial Vehicles is held in Hannover.
