True to its slogan “Driving tomorrow”, the Frankfurt Motor Show 2019 was the leading international platform for the very latest developments in the world of mobility. From September 12 to 22, trade visitors and the general public convened to see for themselves the hottest brands, suppliers and newcomers in the industry, as well as innovative mobility service providers, high-tech companies and start-ups from all over the world.
Mobility has never been as fascinating, and transport has never been as exciting and enticing. By diving into the IAA Exhibition with it's halls and open-air area half a million visitors experienced first-hand the latest technologies, digital solutions and the next generation of coupés, station wagons, SUVs, off-road vehicles and super sports cars.
Here the visitors were able to see how the highest of demands are met down to the very last detail: Interactive showrooms with a maximum of hands-on character created a truly unique, sensual atmosphere. Seeing, touching, hearing – in short, every aspect of such megatrends as connected and autonomous driving, electromobility and alternative drives, as well as urban and digital mobility concepts. Numerous world premieres, live presentations and innovations – all revealed for the first time at the IAA Exhibition in 2019.
Cars are a sensual experience: whether concentrating on the next curve, feeling the power of the engine or the thrill of the speed. The visitors took the wheel of some of the premiered vehicles as well as current models presented by your favorite marque. The free IAA Test Drive at F10 enabled them to choose between an exclusive route through downtown Frankfurt or on the nearby autobahn. The vehicles on offer ranged from efficient combustion engines, via hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, right up to electric and fuel-cell cars. And two autonomous shuttle buses around Hall 10 provided a very special driving experience.
For the first time the “Agora” at the IAA 2019 had an open-air circuit for e-bikes on an area of 1,500 square meters. Visitors got “on their bikes” and put the latest models from well-known brands through their paces. Cyclists tackling the 125-meter track had to negotiate banked turns, a rumble strip and various types of terrain. In addition, a selection of e-scooters were available for testing.
If you want even more excitement then the IAA Off-road Trial was right for you – with its SUVs and jeeps over extreme inclines, bumpy slopes and a seesaw. An adventure you won’t forget in a hurry. The special classic car show IAA Heritage by MOTORWORLD delighted connoisseurs of automotive aesthetics and culture.
Fun and enjoyment in discovering new things were also on the agenda for the young ones – whether on a school outing, for a birthday treat or visiting with the rest of the family. The varied IAA Kids World offered those between five and 13 an unforgettable experience, including the Kids Driving Test and the Off-road Challenge.
What do a data scientist, UX designer, cloud architect and a natural language processing expert all have to do with mobility? The answer is simple: The automotive industry currently reflects the changes in our lives and work. Some professions will disappear, while new ones are being created. The IAA Career offered students, graduates and young professionals from engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, IT and design exclusive insights and career perspectives. They met the leading employers from the world of mobility and expanded their network and demonstrated their talent. Whatever aspect of the sector makes your pulse race – the IAA Career made it possible for you to discover your true passion and actively participate in shaping the changes within this rapidly developing industry.
How are society, business, indeed our whole way of life changing and how does this affect our mobility? What can new technologies offer us? What does digitalization and connectivity mean for our automotive needs? Answers to these and many more questions were the focus of the new IAA Conference on four stages in Hall 5. It formed the contextual basis of the IAA and from September 11, 2019 offered five days of interesting talks, stories, debates, keynotes and more on future mobility.
The IAA Conference thus launched the discussion on such hot topics as artificial intelligence, infotainment, alternative drives, solutions for climate change, smart cities and the sharing economy. It also took the ideas to a higher level with an impressive line-up of over 200 top CEOs, visionaries, unconventional thinkers and inspirational figures from the worlds of science, politics, society and the international automotive and high-tech scene.
