The 67th IAA Cars was held in Frankfurt am Main from September 14 to 24, 2017, with 994 exhibitors from 39 countries. Many new exhibitors from fields including the IT sector positioned the IAA once more as the leading international event for mobility.
With a total of 994 exhibitors from 39 countries, the 67th IAA Cars was very successful and represented a highlight of the international automotive calendar 2017. Over 50 passenger car brands were represented, including the largest automotive OEMs from Europe, the US and Asia. In 2017 the supply companies accounted for 39 percent of the exhibitors, the largest exhibitor category.
With regard to the internationality, the IAA Cars is more than justified in claiming to be the leading trade show: 41 percent of the exhibiting companies came from outside Germany. Once again the People’s Republic of China came in first place, with 18 percent of foreign exhibitors. The Netherlands took second place with 13 percent. The US rose to third place, with 9 percent. This year, for the first time ever, exhibitors attended from Egypt, Finland and Peru.
The IAA fully embodied this year’s slogan, “Future now.” It showcased the entire range of innovations for mobility. For example, IAA visitors could admire 228 world premieres – more than at any previous IAA. 166 of these world premieres were unveiled by the over 400 exhibiting suppliers.
The New Mobility World (NMW) enabled the IAA to offer a successful format for all new players in the world of mobility. The NMW specifically brought together innovators from all sectors who develop new solutions, technologies or products for the mobility of tomorrow and beyond. More than 250 companies were involved. The NMW conference program included 200 international speakers, and 8,000 visitors had registered for it in advance. Altogether, 250,000 visitors came to see the NMW exhibits and 18,000 visitors actively participated in the driving activities of the outdoor parcours.
The overall social media reach of the IAA amounts to 1 billion contacts.
The IAA remains the trade show attracting the most visitors in Germany – by a large margin – also due to the wide-ranging program offered. By the end of the last exhibition day, 810,400 visitors had attended the IAA and participated in the activities.
The average IAA visitor was 34 years young. The share of female visitors to the IAA has increased steadily since 2011 and in 2017 it reached a new record of 23 percent. The share of visitors from abroad came to 17 percent, which was exactly the same as in 2015. The proportion of foreign trade visitors was 18 percent. 30 percent of trade visitors held managerial positions.
More than half of the visitors attending the IAA had precise purchase plans or were considering buying a car within the next six months.
