David Clayton is Executive Director of the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR), home to the first graduate automotive engineering program in the US and the innovative Deep Orange vehicle prototyping program. David collaborates with industry partners to establish and execute cooperative research projects and academic engagement initiatives. Prior to Clemson, David was founding Executive Director of the Center for Manufacturing Innovation and Director of Research for the South Carolina Department of Commerce. A former nuclear fuel design engineer with Westinghouse Electric, David earned a BS in mechanical engineering from Clemson University and an International MBA from the University of South Carolina.
